Railways around the area

At Wooden Box (woodville)

There is no railway link in Hartshorne, the nearest link being in the past in Woodville (Wooden Box).

The Railways came to Wooden Box in the second half of the 19th Century. The Midland Railway put a branch line from Swadlincote to Wooden Box in 1856. This ended against the main A50 near to Outrams (Hartshorne) pottery. In 1884 the M.R. built a loop-line through Wooden Box (Woodville) joining all the potteries from Moira to Swadlincote. A passenger station was built in Station Road, Woodville.

This line was closed in 1962.
